XII at Fantasy Filmfestival

[NOTE: this text may contain major spoilers on the movie and what you can read here is just the author's very personal opinion!]

As stated in my last post I had the great opportunity to watch XII as part of a film festival in a theater in Hamburg on Thursday. What can I say… Steven on the big screen? It is something that you really shouldn’t miss and I knew I HAD to do this trip, because I’d never seen him on a cinema screen before! Besides that the movie was shown with its original language (what’s pretty uncommon here in Germany as we usually get everything dubbed) and so it was a double highlight.

Before you ask: no, there was neither cast, nor crew, nor red carpet, but I didn’t expect that anyway.

To my mind XII is one of these typical yet well done blood-and-splatter movies and if you’re not used to watch such kind of horror films you should better have strong nerves before you buy a ticket. Btw, tickets are rare as XII will only be shown once per city during this festival. Further screenings will take place a. o. in Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich (click here to see full schedule).

[SPOILER WARNING!]

—————————————-

Steven’s part in XII is the one of FBI agent Michael Norton who’s investigating a series of gruesome murders which seem to be connected. That leads him to a small desert town where he meets up with Deputy Kent (Nick Searcy) to get more information about some people that are missing.

After 15 minutes runtime you’ll be totally involved into everything, the main characters, the killer’s motives, agent Norton’s family situation and while enjoying your popcorn you think ‘wow, that’s so cool, this time Steven’s playing one of the leads, the hero, the typical good-cop that will finally stop the psycho from murdering the rest of the 12 jury members - at least 1 or 2 of them…‘ But, well… Only a second later you’ll find out that you were wrong!

WTF!?

I got so disappointed frustrated upset about what happened then that I was close to leave the screening! Ok, I knew in the trailer it looked like he would get caught by the truck, but after 15 minutes??? I couldn’t believe that, that’s why I stayed, constantly thinking of a bad joke, hoping every single minute they’d bring him back, hoping he would not be dead just hurt, still believing he would be the good-cop-hero and save the situation at the end…

But he didn’t!

Don’t get that wrong, XII isn’t a bad movie! I liked it and I love Steven playing this role, he did a really good job, but why the heck did he have to die so soon?! Why this deep introduction of his character when he does not even survive the first half? Seriously, I made all the way to Hamburg to only get 15 minutes Steven!? *lol* I think I’ve (unintentionally) reached a new level of fangirling by that…

Nevertheless, I’m glad to have done this trip since I think it will take some time until I can see the movie again. I’ll check out for the DVD release, of course, and post some screencaps to the gallery then.

Of course it is, absolutely :) And it’s not a complaint about that he’s only 15 minutes in this movie, it was more the total surprise about his sudden, unexpected death, because they introduced Agent Norton as a MAIN character! God, I was soooo sure he’d kill the killer… *lol* ;-)

  5. Yep, I saw the trailer and was so disappointed that Steven’s character was killed so early! I want to see more of him! He’s so attacted: smart clothes, gorgeous smile and special vision! I’ve been addicted to see him talking on the phone, standing on the road in very short moment before his character’s death!
Any way, any moment seeing him is a precious moment!
    Love him!
    Thanks for useful information, Darbie!
